Heading from Okayama to Tsuyama on the way to the Yoshii-Kawa River, there is a prosperous mining town called Yanahara. Were you aware that this is where the "Ishi no Hana" confectionery, a sweet reknowned in confectionery circles, is made? A famous sweet named after one of the mines in the area, made of a delicious inner layer of mochi, wrapped in an outer layer of high quality roasted red beans. Upon eating this sweet, the red bean flavour combined with the fragrance of the mochi explodes in ones mouth, a taste so delicious as to be described as incomparable by connoisseurs.
Our main shop, located in Yanahara is open all year round, with the only exception being New Years Day.
We also make a large variety of seasonal cakes, with kusa-mochi and cherry blossom mochi in Spring, Kashiwa mochi for the boys festival in May, suidaifuku in Summer, as well as a variety of manju in Autumn and Winter. Established in the Showa Period, we began as a maker of cheap sweets and ice-candies which were sold from carts in the days when the mines were booming. Our products were well received in the area, and we soon branched into bread making, producing single-handedly the bread for all the local schools in Yanahara. We have since developed into the famous confectionery company of today, producing our "Ishi no Hana" as just one part of our wide range of Japanese-style confectionery.
